This blog is long overdue, for which I apologise, but I do get rather busy these days... :) It's not going to be on any single topic, just a few bits and bobs that have been happening lately in the world of H&E.
Firstly, I can scarcely believe where the time's been going lately. I have now published SEVEN issues of the magazine under my own steam. Seven! How did that happen? Well, through hard work and the support of a handful of fantastic contributors, and, of course, our loyal readers. Things are running pretty smoothly now, and I've recently had a little more time to look at other aspects of the H&E offering, such as the online subscription and the app.

From the Rants of a mad naked woman blog
So, I went to my second naked swim the other day and it was very friendly, welcoming and relaxed, as I have come to expect from naturist meets. However, there was one thing that stood out at this particular swim: I was the only woman. It was a small swim, only ten of us in fact. Now, if I hadn't met the majority of these men before, I think I would have been rather intimidated and may have been worried about being stared at etc. Had it been my first naturist meeting, I would most likely have run a mile.

Of course I don’t mean, in asking this question, for you to say “my mother” or, worse still (especially for a teenage girl), “my father”. No, I mean someone outside the family circle. Was it a boyfriend or girlfriend, or later a committed partner or husband? It’s a question that doesn’t get asked that often, yet as naturists it’s quite interesting to consider. Initial introductions to naturism are for us quite significant.
In the hot summer of 1976 I was invited round on a Saturday to my then boyfriend’s house, where he was alone for the weekend. I rang the bell and the door creaked open, but with no figure to be seen. I walked in, and behind the door was Jonathan – stark naked. I had seen him bare-chested, but this was a bit of a shock. He looked really great, fit and tanned. He smiled and after a kiss led me through to the garden. It was, considering we were in South London, totally secluded, so that neighbours could not see over. He poured me some sangria; two loungers, with (curiously, I thought) towels on them, were set either side of a neat table. It was very sultry and reminded me of holidays in Spain.

I know it's still only the beginning of February, but I really wish this winter would start giving way to spring... I know it will do, it always does, but boy, it seems a long time coming at the moment. As is typical of this country, it'll probably be unseasonably sunny and warm next week, and the tabloids will start printing pictures of girls in bikinis in parks and on beaches (wouldn't it be great if they published pictures of people enjoying our naturist beaches, without any innuendo or mockery?).

During the height of the media furore about super-injunctions, it got me thinking about privacy, and how the boundaries of privacy are somewhat blurred in the naturist environment. When we think about privacy, we think about information and secrets that we don’t want everyone to know about; we think about our freedom to live our lives without unnecessary intrusion or public interest; we think about activities that wouldn’t be conducted in the public eye; we think about our opinions and ideas that don’t always fit the status quo, so we keep them to ourselves. Some of the fundamental facets of privacy remain the same whether naturist or in the clothed environment, but some aspects seem to mutate in the naked community, sometimes at our own discretion, but often because the rules of privacy are different when consensual nudity surrounds us.
