Have we entered an era of new prudery? There seem to be more hang-ups and greater restrictions relating to the naked body than we have witnessed for some time – but that’s where naturism’s ambassadors step in.
In this issue, we salute a number of committed proponents of the lifestyle who are keen to pass on their experience of (and passion for) naturism to others.
Matt Lamburn does it through naked yoga. Our Nude & Happy blogger tries to encourage more open discussion about the subject. Simon and Helen Berriman aren’t afraid to voice their opinions in the mainstream media. Andee and Tom Rogers have taken to the road. Nick and Lins of Naked Wanderings have been doing that for some time. And disabled naturist Pete Moffat’s story is an inspiration to all.
They obviously all love what they’re doing. It just seems a shame that they sometimes feel they have to.
Meanwhile, Robert Sanders scratches his head at the absurdity of pixelation, while in his history lesson on mermaids, photographer Colin Wilson recalls a time when the mythical creatures were always depicted as bare-breasted, unlike in today’s Hollywood films.
Plus: in this month’s Secret Beaches, Peter Coates goes off the beaten track in Crete, Simon Goss continues his life-drawing class, and we meet Dutch couple Sandra and Remi, who are starting up their own naturist campsite in Tuscany – and, somewhat unusually, crowdfunding 50% of the project.
